Martin's Tavern
Historic tavern where JFK proposed to Jackie
Established in 1933, Martin's Tavern, or Billy Martin's as some call it, is the oldest fammily owned restaurant or bar in DC, and oldest continually operated restaurant or bar in DC. Yes, it has the kissing booth where John proposed to Jackie, the Nixon booth (not as popular for some reason), and the old half booth where JFK would work on his papers. But for many it is just their local watering hole. It very much still is a local bar, filled with neighbors and tourists at a pretty even ratio. Stop in for a pint, or a meal that rivals high end steakhouses. If you see Nep behind the bar make sure you order an Old Fashion.
