Meg McGarry

Guide - Marketing Manager

Meg is originally from Louisville, Ky. but has called Washington DC home for over a decade now. Meg was a professional actor for many years and is a natural-born storyteller. 


She has always been fascinated by natural history and science and, living in the Nation's Capital, developed a deep love of American history. She enjoys meeting new people and sharing her love of D.C. and history on her tours, and she considers it a privilege to be part of our guests ' memory-making moments. 

Meg loves cooking, dancing, trail running, and taking advantage of the amazing dining scene and vibrant live theatre and music venues in D.C.

Things to Do!

Escape to the woods without leaving the city with a visit to Rock Creek Park.

Explore 32 miles of hiking trails, visit the nature center, and don’t miss the last operational grist mill in Rock Creek Park, built in 1829 Pierce Mill. During the warm months, the mill is open for demonstrations!

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts hosts talented entertainers across all genres, but the campus alone is also worth a visit.The building is beautifully designed, with John F. Kennedy’s inspirational words covering the walls and the art within the building is lovely.  There are free performances on the Millenium Stage most evenings and the gift shop is a great souvenir stop.

The REACH is a recent addition to the building and includes an outdoor area that is perfect for picnics, or relaxing while enjoying views of the Potomac River and the area skyline. They even sell beer and wine onsite!FoodFast Casual


Chiko- inventive, Chinese/Korean fusion.  Try their weekend dim-sum. Nando’s Peri Peri-iconic small restaurant chain based out of South Africa.  Known for their chicken, but they offer delicious home made sides and a great veggie burger too.

Shake Shack- if you don’t have one in your town, don’t miss your chance to try this favorite while you’re here.  The veggie burger is amazing and the  seasonal shakes are fantastic.

Cava- Mediterranean, founded by first generation Greek immigrants in nearby Rockville,  Maryland, now a thriving regional chain.   Serves yummy bowls, salads, and pitas.




Duke’s Grocery- local favorite for burgers, sandwiches, brunch, and local beers.


Daikaya My favorite ramen in the city, their vegetarian ramen is wonderful.


Dupont Circle Farmers Market locally grown fruits, vegetables, and flowers, but also lots of fresh  breakfast foods, juices, and pastries. 


Lost Generation Brewery award winning local brewery that makes traditional and experimental brews.


Red Bear Brewing Company Great vibe, solid food menu, fun trivia and good beer. Take advantage of their board games, free to customers.  


Breadfurst - James Beard award - winning bakery that also serves fresh, seasonal sandwiches, salads, and soups.  Check out their location inside the Phillips Collection. There is a fee to view the art collection, but anyone can access the cafe.
