Shane Harris
Guide
Shane has been fascinated with history since reading about Ancient Egypt at 6 years old. Ever a lifelong traveler, he has traveled to Europe, Africa, and Asia, living in southern China for 7 years and Cambodia for 5 months. While in Guangzhou, China, Shane started the city’s first historical-interpretative tour company called Bowtie History, which focused on telling stories of the city and the surrounding area for international guests and foreign service agencies. Through this work, Shane collaborated on public diplomacy projects with the U.S. Department of State between 2019 and 2023. A historian by trade, Shane has worked in tourism for 10 years on two continents and finds himself in Washington, D.C. since 2021. Shane is a Certified Interpretive Guide from the National Association of Interpretation and has trained others in storytelling, narrative design, and cross-cultural communication. He’s passionate about the Big Picture - how do the little details and objects you see on tour create the diverse tapestry of connections to our lives.Â
When not wandering through museums and memorials, Shane loves to dance swing, Latin, and ballroom, sing Broadway songs loudly in his car, and go on adventures with his cute but bossy Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Carrot. Ask him about the coolest museums to see in DC or how to enjoy a night out on the town!
